HealthCare Chaplaincy Network (HCCN) is a 501(c)3 global health care nonprofit organization that offers spiritual-related information and resources, and professional chaplaincy services in hospitals, other health care settings, and online.

Our mission is to advance the integration of spiritual care in health care through clinical practice, research and education in order to improve the patient experience and help people faced with illness, suffering and grief find comfort and meaning—whoever they are, whatever they believe, wherever they are. We have been caring for the human spirit since 1961.

Our wide range of programs and services, and areas of concentration include:

  • Clinical Practice - HCCN provides professional chaplaincy services in leading health care institutions, including the Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and NYU Langone Medical Center. Research shows that professional chaplains, working as the spiritual care specialists on the health care team, improve patient and family satisfaction by helping them address emotional and spiritual needs and facilitate discussions that can influence goals of care.

  • Interactive Services - HCCN extends the reach of chaplaincy to enable consumers to access information and spiritual support wherever they are via our Outpatient Chaplaincy initiative, which includes telechaplaincy - the ability to connect with a chaplain via email, phone or video chat.

  • Research - HCCN is a leader in evidence-based research in spiritual care, demonstrating the value of spiritual care and chaplaincy interventions in health care.

  • Education - HCCN is one of the largest and most experienced providers of clinical pastoral education (CPE), and is accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc.

  • Membership – In April 2016, HCCN introduced the Spiritual Care Association, an affiliate that is an international, professional membership organization for chaplains and other health care providers, clergy and organizations. This forward-thinking organization offers new pathways for pastoral education, and board credentialing and certification for chaplains, as well as a robust advocacy platform – with the goals of standardizing, modernizing and professionalizing the field.
